Introduction of School of Politics and International Studies(SPIS)  

 

 School of Politics and International Studies(SPIS) of Central China Normal University was founded in 1978, after more than 30 years development, SPIS is now a prestigious and advanced institute for political studies in China. SPIS consists of three departments including Department of Scientific Socialism,Department of Political Studies and Department of International Affaris.Master and Ph.D. degrees can be granted by IPS major in Political Theory, Comparative political institutions, Scientific Socialism and International Communism Movement, International Politics, International Relations, Diplomacy, Political Sociology, Political Economy, Local Government and Urban Studies, Constitutionalism and Rule of Law , etc. The disciplines of IPS are on the top list in the national academic evaluation.      

 

SPIS presently has 30 faculty and staff members, among which 14 are professors, 8 are associate professors, and 3 are assistant professors. Many of them are well-known scholars in their respetive research fields. In recent years, SPIS bid for and undertook more than 100 academic research projects of different types at different levels including Key Projects of National Social Sciences Fund and Ministry of Education. SPIS has won many provincial - ministerial level academic awards for its research achievements.    

 

Nowadays, SPIS has more than 500 Master and Ph.D. students includingnearly 100 foreign students from more than 50 countries. Every year, there are about 130 postgraduates and 30 Ph.D.students are enrolled in SPIS, more than 10 post-doctoral researchers and visiting scholars work in SPIS as well. Years ago, SPIS started its own International Students Programme, and now nearly 30 master and Ph.D. foreign students are enrolled each year and most of them study in Department of International Affaris. Foreign students can either choose to attend Chinese class (three years) or attend Englishclass(two years).
